QUESTIONS
Permit history, answered.
How do I look up the building permits for a house in DFW?
Enter the full street address, including city and ZIP, in the search box above. BuiltBefore matches the property and shows the permits the city has on record, each with its type, date, status, work description, and a link back to the municipal source.
Which cities does BuiltBefore cover?
McKinney (mostly 2018 to present), Arlington (Sept 2023 to present), Dallas (2000–2004 so far), Fort Worth (2016–2018 so far), and Frisco (currently active permits). Newer Dallas and Fort Worth years are being added, and Carrollton is planned. Every result shows its date range so you know what may be missing.
Why check permit history before buying a house?
Permits show what work was done and when: roof replacements, electrical panel upgrades, additions, foundation repairs. They help you ask better questions about age, quality, and unpermitted work before you make an offer or waive an inspection item.
Where does the permit data come from?
From each city's own published permit records. BuiltBefore normalizes them into one readable timeline and keeps the original source and retrieval date attached to every record.
Is BuiltBefore a substitute for a home inspection?
No. Permit records can be delayed, incomplete, or published incorrectly, and they cannot show unpermitted work. Use BuiltBefore as research and verify anything material with the city and a licensed inspector.
How much does BuiltBefore cost?
Checking an address is free during early access. Paid plans for saved properties, alerts, and professional reports are planned from $4.99 a month and are not open yet.
SOURCES
Receipts stay attached.
BuiltBefore displays normalized municipal public records and retains links to the originating source whenever the publisher provides one. Coverage varies by city and is not a substitute for an official inspection or records request.
PRIVACY
Your search is your business.
Address lookups are processed to return property records. Waitlist emails are used only to tell you when early access opens and are never sold. Saved-property accounts and alerts are not publicly available yet; their privacy controls will ship before early access opens.
EARLY ACCESS
Research, not a warranty.
Permit data can be delayed, incomplete, or published incorrectly. Verify material findings with the responsible municipality before making a purchase or construction decision.
